To Parents

I am so thrilled to know that there are parents out there that don’t care if their son/daughter is gay/straight.  Keep that mentality.

My son is 17 and is gay.  He is proud of who he is, we are proud of who he is, but it is more than just saying… “We accept you for who you are.”

NOT everyone is as accepting.  Not everyone is tolerant.  Yes, there are jerks out there, and as the mother of a gay young man, that scares me.  It scares me to think that my son might get hurt because, in someone’s eyes, he loves the wrong person.  It scares me to think that one day he might have to defend his choices, and might pay a high price for doing so.

So parents, if you think your child might be gay, it’s great to say that you don’t care; you will love them no matter what.  You should!  But please remember, they might need more than your acceptance, so make sure you are there to give it if they need it.
